Wasim Akram – The Legend is Back !!!

To see Wasim Akram in advertisement is a treat all the times and now it is nice to see Waseem Akram in an advertisement of Ufone on a TV channel the other day. No doubt, the name of Wasim Akram is associated with exuberance, style, success, leadership, hard work and learning. And it was real treat to know that he is back with a bang again but with Ufone this time.

Most of the advertisement viewers are discussing that Waseem Akram has changed his loyalties and has become brand ambassador of Ufone after Mobilink. For those people, let me put the record straight that the legendary cricketer was associated with Ufone when it was at an infancy stage. Most of us can easily recall the ‘Salma and Faisal’ advertisement campaign and Waseem Akram was seen in an advertisement where the legendary cricketer is seen visiting a Ufone office for some reason. Even now, the charismatic team consisting of Faisal, Adeel Hasmi, Jawad Bashir and Mehreen Raheel etc are still at their best to picturise new ideas and the addition of Waseem Akram has added more colors to Ufone’s ads. Discourage dirty Politics in Pakistan

By: Shaukat Masood Zafar

A paradox lies at the heart of politics in Pakistan. Political polarization is at its peak in Pakistan ahead of the forthcoming general elections. Pakistani brand “democracy” has not been able to deliver anything to the masses during a long tenure of more than four years. There has hardly been any positive and radical transformation into the life of Pakistani populace or people belonging to the lowest strata of the society.Today Pakistan is the country facing the maximum terrorism and other problems due to the dirty politics and sick law & order situation in the country. Every criminal & terrorist thinks he is more powerful than law due to his linkages with the corrupt and power hungry politicians. If the vast and silent majority is taken into account, they certainly deserve better than what they have been getting in the form of this so called political government. Our politicians are so sick that they love their chairs rather than their country. Everyday, there are headlines in every single News Papers and TV Channels which includes the name of Zardari, Gilani, Rehman Malik and so on. Most are in negative way and rare in positive way. Capacity of the politicians to inspire citizens, resolve conflicts and deliver public services has been drastically undermined by their own actions. Today, criminals join politics to gain influence and ensure that cases against them are dropped or not proceeded with. The law disqualifies convicted criminals from contesting elections. But this does not keep criminals out of politics because legal delays, often abetted by political pressures, make convictions of resourceful crooks rather rare. Read more »

Pak U.S Ties at Odds

By: Shaukat Masood Zafar

A US Congressional committee in its budgetary proposals for the year 2013 has prohibited economic and security assistance to Pakistan unless the government of Pakistan is cooperating with the US on counterterrorism efforts and other issues and takes action against groups like Haqqani network, Taliban, al-Qaida, LeT and JeM. Even Pakistan is facing the possibility of being left out of the coming Chicago meeting on Afghanistan, although military-level contacts are continuing and ISAF commander John Allen has met Chief of Army Staff Ashfaq Parvez Kayani Saturday.

While inflicting such type of conditions, US has totally ignored that Pakistan has already suffered financial loss of more than $ 68 billions in America`s so called war on terror in addition to human loss of around 42000 people including 35000 civilians and around 7000 security personnel, complete destruction of infraustructure in NATO supplies, erosion of investment climate, low production and growing unemployment, and several other indirect losses. Pakistan used to claim between $100 and $140 million per month from the US; it is facing difficulty to get even that meager amount for the last about one year. Initially, it was estimated that the cost of this war to Pakistan would be $2.669 billion dollars, actually reached up to more than $ 68 billon. Pakistan’s involvement in the war on terror has had detrimental consequences for Pakistan’s economy. Read more »

Minimum wage of labour increased to Rs 8000

The minimum wage of workers in Pakistan has been increased to eight thousand rupees, Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani announced. Additionally, the Employees’ Old-Age Benefit Institution pension has been increased to Rs 2,000 from Rs 1,500.

Gilani, addressing an event at said “Our democratic government is committed to bringing a socio-economic revolution in the country, as was envisioned by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto,” Gilani told the attendees.

In addition to the thousand-rupee wage increase, the death grant for labourers has also been increased from Rs 150,000 to Rs 500,000 and grant for labourers’ children’s weddings has been raised from Rs 70,000 to Rs 100,000.

Gilani also urged a prompt announcement of the Labour Policy 2012 and implementation of the Industrial Relations Act (IRA-2012). “PPP is the party of labourers and workers. We have always worked for their rights but some elements did not like our love for the labour community,” the PM said.

Amid pro-PPP sloganeering, Gilani claimed that the PPP government has fulfilled 80 per cent of its promises. “Restoration of labour rights, IRA-2012, Labour Appellate Tribunals, Labour Policy 2010, reinstatement of over 6,000 sacked government employees, right of appeal to government servants in labour courts are the big achievements of our government,” the PM boasted.

Gilani also announced the construction of 12,000 houses, seven schools, seven industrial homes and four community centres for the labour community.

“Our democratic government made workers shareholders in for the first time in the country’s history and distributed shares worth Rs. 100 billion among half a million workers,” the under-fire PM told the convention. Steps such as nomination of workers in the Board of Directors of the institutions will empower the working classes.

In the last I want to mention that Government has to look into the private sector as well, and their should be some policy of increment in private sector.

Cameron Munter-A Great Man From American Lands

PROFESSOR ALI SUKHANVER

History is going to repeat itself very soon. The people of Pakistan must be ready for another episode like that of the Abbotabad Hunting. Zawahiri is in Pakistan; assured the gracious lady Hilary Clinton talking to media in Kolkata, a few days back. She further said in the same interview, “You have to go over those who are trying to kill you. You have to be focused on that.” Hilary is no doubt very much true in her concept of pursuing those who are trying to kill you. Her approach in this regard must be sincerely followed by all those who are being consistently under the target of their oppressors, sometimes in the form of terrorists and sometimes in the shape of exploiters. It seems that the so-called Islamic extremists are also following the same philosophy of chase n hit as expressed by Hilary Clinton. They are always going over those who are trying to kill them. It is simply the game of Cat and Rat but the positions of Tom and Jerry keep on changing. Unfortunately this game is going to end nowhere; neither the Tom nor the Jerry seems willing to give up but what about millions of those who have nothing to do with either of the two opponents. Be it the 9/11 incident or the Mumbai Blasts or the every day showering drone attacks on blameless people of Pakistan; we find millions of guiltless lives at stake. Who is going to compensate for this wholesale massacre; world is looking towards Hilary for a satisfactory answer to this question. Read more »

Illiteracy a Path to Ruin

By: Shaukat Masood Zafar

Education has always been and continues to be one of the most important needs of mankind. Every Government is thus obliged to not only strive towards providing access to education to all its citizens but must also improve the quality of education in the country. Contrarily The Pakistani education system is increasingly challenged with many complex problems. There is a general outcry that the standards of education are falling and morals flagging. In recent times, we are witnessing a new trend in Pakistan and due to this trend; today education has become a way of earning lot of money by businessmen, politicians and bureaucrats. The corporate sector has discovered a huge and ever growing service industry in education where the students are consumers, teachers are service providers and expert speakers, and the institutions or companies catering to education services are organisers, and the teaching-learning process is no longer for the building of a nation but a business for profit-making. Education no longer is a noble profession but a business enterprise, a profit-making opportunity. For most of these entrepreneurs education is nothing more than a way of making good returns from their investments and due to this reason, they are charging huge amount of fees from students, while students mostly have no option in their hands except giving this fees in the hope of getting a good education and later good future. One thing which is poison for the quality of education is the idea of students as customers. Read more »
