In the final played at Lords, London between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, Lanka won the toss and decided to bat but disaster struck wherein the young Amir opening the bowling had Dilshan caught brilliantly by Hassan in the first over itself, Mubarak was promoted to No.1 slot never stayed and was again gulped by Hassan at Mid of of Razzack and left Lankans totering at 2-2 but Jayasuriya tried looking dangerous belting two fours of Razack who finally got the reward by having him clean bowled , even Jayawardene joined the dressing room and there after wickets kept tumbling every interval due to the consistent and accurate bowling by the Pakistanis , the saving grace of Lankan innings was the 68 runs partnership for the 7 wicket between Skipper Sangakkara who scored unbeaten 64 with 7 hits to the fence and Angelo Mathews who remained unbeaten on 35 with three fours and a six and set a defendable total of 138 thanks to the sixteen runs given by Amir in the penutimilate over , Lankans who were reeling at 70-6 looked satisfied scoring 138 runs. Razack was the succesful bowler claiming 3 wickets for 20 runs in his 3 overs while Afridi, Ameer , Umar gul claimed a wicket each

Chasing the moderate 138 set by Lankans Pakistan were of to a flier with Kamran Akmal playing some good shots assisted by Shahzaib Hasan who put on 48 runs for the first wicket, but going for a slog Kamran Akmal was stumped easily of Muralidharan for 37 runs ,even Shahzaib Hasan never lasted long there after the Boom Boom Afridi and Shaoib Mallick joined and played a spoil sport for the Lankans with their 76 runs partnership for the fourth wicket with both the players never looked in a hurry but Afridi after getting the ryhthym played some fantastic shots and remained unbeaten on 54 in 40balls with 2 fours and 2 sixers ably assisted by Shoaib Mallick who remained unbeaten on 24 and sealed victory for the Pakistanis.

Lankan bowlers were easily dealt by the Pakistani batsmen , even Mendis, Murali, Mallinga never had the venom to sting the opponents and were easily outclassed .

Pakistan became the new World Champion of the 20-20 ending their drought of losses.

Shahid Afridi was named the Man of the Match while Dilshan was nominated as the Player of the Series for his 317 runs in 7 innings.
