Clocks to be reversed from 1 October

No more fuss of "naya time" and "purana time".

No more fuss of "naya time" and "purana time".

The clocks all over in the country would be reversed back by one hour from midnight of 30 September & 1 October and Pakistan Standard Time will be observed.

The clocks will show 11 pm AGAIN when they reach at 12 am by being reversed by an hour so Wednesday, 30 September, will observe 25 hours in Pakistan.

The advancement of clocks by one hour and observation of Daylight Saving Time (DST) instead of Pakistan Standard Time (PST) began from 14 April, 1200 am. Initially, the cabinet decision was to pursue DST until 31 October. But now the decision has been altered.

Although, most of the people didn’t appreciate this idea of reversing and advancing the clocks and disturbing the standard time, but the government had twice observed it since it has taken charge. Infact, in none of the rural areas of Pakistan, DST was observed. Most of the mosques also didn’t observe it. Throughout the observation of DST, there remained a fuss and confusion of “naya time” and “purana time”.

Daylight saving system was aimed at saving the consumption of electricity at night by utilizing an extra hour in a day for daylight activities.

Government estimated to save 500 MW electricity through this daylight saving system however, many leading newspapers said that only 250 MW power could be saved through this system when DST was observed last year.

Update: The Government of Pakistan has decided to postpond the decision of reversing the clock till end of October 2009.
