Mobilink is Near to Launch Mobile Banking Solution in Pakistan

Mobile Business Solution is growing idea these days after the launch of Telenor’s easypaisa. I think its better to say that Mobile Commerce is probably the hottest trend in Pakistan’s telecom market. Mobilink already had sensed the potential in mobile banking/branch less banking, pretty early, however company took its time in executing the idea.

In Nov, 2008 Mobilink had signed an agreement with Pakistan Post Office to introduce Mobile Money Order Service in Pakistan. The agreement was signed by Ahsan Basir Sheikh, Additional Director General (Financial Services) from Pakistan Post and Bilal Munir Sheikh, VP Marketing from Mobilink

News it that Mobilink is set ready to launch Mobile Commerce, under which it would introduce the concept of Branchless Banking with local and international remittance. Launch is expected early next year.

In a recent report published in Business Recorder and Propakistani, while quoting Mobilink Spokesperson, said that Mobilink is going to enable the consumers to have the experience of paying utility bills, opening and usage of bank accounts through cell phones, and national and international remittances.

It merits mentioning here that Mobilink tried local remittance service in collaboration with Pakistan Post; however, idea didn’t click the desired way.But it didn’t work out for Mobilink. We also know of Western Union’s agreement with Mobilink, which will allow the company to offer international remittance.

However, after the launch of Telenor’s Easy Paisa, one may expect from Mobilink for coming up with something huge. If we look at chances, they are bring as well, particularly after gigantic advertising campaign of Easy Paisa, which worked as awareness for the masses. Now people know mobile money transfer more than what they used to know when Mobilink had launched remittance service.
