Pakistan cricket star Shoaib Malik is going to marry Indian ace tennis star Sania Mirza on 15 April. TV channels said the two had been seeing each other for last half an year and the alliance was formalised when Shoaib’s mother met Sania’s parents in India (Hyderabad Deccan). The wedding is to take place in India and the reception in Lahore. The couple will reside in Dubai. Sania, who was previously engaged with her childhood friend Sohrab Mirza, called off her engagement with him two months back.
This isn’t the first time Malik has been linked with an Indian woman. Shoaib has formerly been engaged to Ayesha Siddiqui (who was also from Hyderabad Deccan) earlier in 2002 who claims to be married to the former Pakistani cricket captain. Ayesha’s father has also tried to threaten Shoaib to give Ayesha divorce before proceeding further. Mr. M.A. Siddiqui, father of Ayesha; the alleged wife of Shoaib; claims that Shoaib married his daughter on 3rd June 2002, and then left her in the cold after some time and now Ayesha wants a divorce, while Shoaib isn’t responding. M. A. Siddiqui says that if Shoaib doesn’t give the divorce then they will go to the courts for Khulah. Shoaib Malik has also been dating former Miss India and Bollywood actress Sayali Bhagat.
This is a unique case where the husband and wife will represent their respective countries in sport. Shoaib said that “I fully understand what it takes to be an international sports person and I will support Sania in her career as long as she wishes to play”. Sania will represent India in the coming 2012 Olympics. It would be a big question mark for the citizens of both rival countries that which country Sania represents if she continues with her Tennis career. Certainly, it would be a stinging sensation for the Indians if she represents Pakistan. Anyway, Shoaib is soon going to become the son-in-law of Hyedabad Deccan and Sania would the the daughter-in-law of Sialkot.
The ‘valima’ ceremony is expected on 16 or 17 April, 2010, in Lahore.
