Media has been creating an unnecessary hype over the issue if Shoaib-Sania marriage and Ayesha Siddiqui’s controversy. Media’s role has become very vital in Pakistan. Media has been playing more or less a positive role in most of the occasions; but sometimes it looks as if television channels are just making their business and nothing else; stretching something for no good. Telcos were not behind anything. As soon as the Shoaib-Sania news about tying the knot floated and the Ayesha Siqqidui’s divorce issue rose, various ringtones and caller tunes were created making fun of all this and highlighting this all. People have been facing lot more severe problems, but media has forgotten all the dire issues and sticking to a non-issue like chewing gum. Infact Geo News, as always been in the past, was very keen in dubbing Indian songs on all this unnecessarily and absolutely extravagantly.
In my opinion, if all this was done for real issues and there had been Aafia Siddiqui in the media in this very fashion instead of Ayesha Siddiqui, then it might have served the caused to some extent. Although, it’s very clear America is not gonna come under Pakistani media’s pressure by any mean, but still, atleast it would have been satisfying to some extent that we speak out and loud on what we should and donot create hype on what we shouldn’t. Undoubtedly media has been highlighting Aafia Siddiqui’s issue, but when they talk about Ayesha Siddiqui in this way, then gives a bad impression to the audience that they are just making their own money and are not the true voice of the people.
We want Aafia Siddiqui in the news instead of Ayesha Siddiqui.
