A case has been registered against 20 people including MNA Jamshed Dasti for torturing doctors and nurses in a hospital of Muzaffargarh. Enraged relatives of a patient, who died today over alleged doctor’s negligence, staged a protest demonstration in front of the Muzaffargarh Hospital and pelted stones. On the other hand, doctors complained that protesters subjected them to torture on order of PPP MNA Jamshed.
Jamshed Dasti had to resign when Supreme court heard a case of fake degree against him. But in constitutional amendments the condition of graduation was removed and PPP gave him ticket to contest in bye election and he won again.
Mr Dasti, who had been in the limelight for his tough stance against officials of different sports bodies for their extravagant lifestyle and poor performance, was stopped from attending the assembly session for three days after he had a quarrel with Faisal Saleh Hayat of the PML-Q last year.
Nawabzada Iftikhar Ahmed Khan Babar, son of late Nawabzada Nasrullah Khan, had accused Jamshed Dasti of holding fake degree. A disoriented and visibly disturbed Dasti informed the bench that he had done his Masters in Islamiat from Al-Shahadat Al Almiya, Multan, in 1998. But he failed to satisfy the court about the period he had spent in the religious institution to get the degree.
He answered wrongly when asked by Justice Ramday about the names of Quranic paras and surahs and arithmetic table. He could not answer when asked about the names of the first two surahs of the Holy Quran.
“Why are you (Mr Dasti) doing wrong things? You are a representative of the public,” Justice Ramday said. “Why do we always misuse the name of God and Islam?” he asked.
Few months back Dawn News channel covering the Liyari Gang war in Karachi, had reported close link of some gangster with PPP leadership and their appointment in People’s Peace Committee. Saner elements in PPP are worried about that such links of PPP leaders and the conduct of their MNAs and MPAs will be damaging to the popularity and prestige of the party.
