36 years Ricky Ponting may have worn the baggy green for the last time after being ruled out of the fifth Test in Sydney due to injury Australian captain Ricky Ponting was today ruled out of the third cricket Test in India because his broken thumb needs more time to heal. The 2010–11 Ashes series is being played in Australia as part of the England cricket team’s tour of Australia during the 2010–11 cricket seasons. Five Tests were scheduled to take place from 25 November 2010 to 7 January 2011. Ponting first fractured the little finger of his left hand during the third Test in Perth and played in Melbourne with it heavily strapped. But an X-ray revealed it had been damaged again during his side’s defeat in the fourth Test. Ricky Ponting admitted his toughest match as captain of the Australian side was the Sydney Test. He dismissed speculation he has already played his last game, declaring he had not even considered retirement because of a broken finger. Ponting further said there was “every possibility” he would in fact need to have an operation, which would rule him out until the ICC World Cup in India, Bangladesh and Sr Lianka, beginning on February 19. Ponting also admitted he would have played the Sydney Test if the Ashes series was still alive. He will be in Sydney until the end of the Test Match and will continue supporting teammates from the sidelines.
