Causes: Fall of Muslim Ummah

Today every Muslim throughout the globe is thinking as to what are the reasons that everywhere in the world the Muslims are being stature, killed, dishonored, disgraced, and deprived of their due rights. In my opinion there are two main reasons, first is that there are no real leaders in the Muslim world due to which they can’t face the challenges of today, and the second one is that role of mother in the Islamic Societies has weakened. I believe our religion have solution of all our problems. In past Muslims were in power even they were less in numbers. Now we are more in numbers but have no power WHY?

Islamic civilization is based upon a point of view: the revelation brought by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the “pure” and simple religion of Hazrat Adam and Hazrat Abraham, the restoration of a primordial and fundamental unity. “Islam” means both “submission” and “peace” or “being at one with the Divine Will.” The creed “there is no divinity other than God and Muhammad is his prophet” summarizes in its simplicity the attitude and spirit of Islam. The essence of Islam is that God is one, and that the Prophet, who is the vehicle of revelation and the symbol of all creation, was sent by him.

We all call ourselves Muslims but we don’t follow the teachings of Islam, We try to spread Islam in an ‘Aggressive’ manner, which creates bad impression on non-Muslims. We have also moved away from the teaching of our Deen and are distant from the Holy Quran, look at our societies the people are intolerant, unjust and devoid of fairness. The west (despite their sexual independence) has taken up all of these Islamic values. The non-Muslims now take the word ‘Jehad’ as terrorism.

The maim factor of Muslims fall is Tafurkah, we, the Muslims are not united. Islam says not to fight each other but now we can see Muslims fighting each other in the name of Firkah (Sunni, Shia, Wahabi, Barailvi etc.). Arabs are rich with the wealth of oil If they stop oil supply to the Muslim’s enemy countries then they can destroy their economy. They are not only supplying them oil but giving them army bases as well to kill the Muslim brothers. On the contrary God says “All Muslims are Brothers”.

In my opinion and as I always stress in most of my articles, we just have to get our generations educated, we should invest major portion of budgets in education sector encouraging research – I say, Educate, Educate, Educate the rest will follow,… justice, social equality, a good economy will follow. Strong leaders shall automatically pop-up among self-respecting and educated people, and never among the people with a loser mentality.  We’ll see the results in next few decades; and for God sake get this “we have forgotten the teachings of Islam” think out of your minds. The nations that are ruling us have nothing to do with Islam. They just have developed an efficient system for their departments to work.

Muslims treat the Quran with reverence. It is seen as the word of Allah spoken in Mecca by the Angel Gabriel. It is not just an ethereal religious text, but a practical handbook for living. However we have provided an opportunity to the non Muslims to frequently ask the question if the system implemented by our prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was so good, why did it not continue successfully? The answer is very simple: Khilafat-e-Rashida stands out as the golden age of Islam. We abandoned the system implemented by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Instead of deciding matters with open consultation, as the Quran requires, the dynastic rulers after Khulfa-e-Rashideen created a dictatorship which is continuing even today and a minority of the rich and powerful has been riding this train and entertaining their friends while exploiting the vast majority of Muslims along the way. The prevailing democracy is a sort of the same dictatorship farce perpetuated on the ignorant by clever rich people for their advancement of their own interests.

This so called Democracy is a government by smart and clever people ( who might be honest or corrupt) for the Fools of this world who continue to believe in the mantra of egalitarianism and equality so that they can be made to what the clever political leaders want. Consequently, common people have continued to live in poverty and to suffer intergenerational economic misery. Islam’s system of zakat has had nothing to do with this sad state of affairs. Democracy as it is practiced- ( and not as it is idealized in theoretical discussions) is a farce and highest form of crookery. I feel that democracy as practiced in the West is not the model for the people of the Muslim world. We don’t have to adopt flawed western ideologies, but those who do then let them do it. Freedom, equality, tolerance, respect of others, letting people be the way they want to be, not worrying about what people wear are not western values, these are human values. These things don’t exist in the Muslim world.

As far as Developed countries are concerned, YES they are more Muslims than us (not in Emaan). They are not corrupt like today’s Muslims, they provide justice, they do research, they are educated, they have good leader who think about their countries. They help their poor people by giving them social security, housing benefit, job seeker allowance, low income support etc. Where from they adopted these ideas, answer is from Muslims. Our Khalifa Hazrat Umar Farooq introduced the social security system for the first time but now non-Muslims have adopted this system. I firmly believe that Muslims are suffering because of their bad deeds. They are not united, they are corrupt, they are uneducated, they don’t afraid to Allah but America. We are distant from Quran; we call ourselves Muslims but we don’t follow the Islamic teaching. I believe our religion have solution of all our problems. In past Muslims were in power even they were less in numbers. Now we are more in numbers but have no power
It is clear that the Qur’an recognizes the importance of wealth but it warns against giving it supremacy over the other important aspects of life. The ultimate aim of the Qur’an is to attain Comprehensive Peace, and economics too has to supplement that aim. The economic activities (Prohibited Economics) that endanger the ultimate goal have no place in an Islamic system. The Qur’an establishes a three-dimensional system comprising fundamental rights, fundamental duties and fundamental prohibitions. Economics related to fundamental prohibitions has become massive in the current world order leading to serious problems at the individual, family, social, national and international level.

I have found that the Quran, if studied from modern and postmodern perspectives, helps us cope with all the problems. Quran is no less compatible with post-modernity thinking; in fact, it is most compatible with it because it makes religious pluralism and multiculturalism the very basis of creation. It exhorts Muslims to show equal respect for others’ all the prophets, as all were sent by Allah in different cultures, with teachings handed out in different languages. The Quran is in Arabic only because it addressed the Arabs primarily and others through them. Quranic teachings clearly assert that the existence of different tribes, races, people of different colours and speakers of different languages is acknowledged and owned in deference to the respective people’s identities; there is no room here to establish any superiority; no religion, language or culture has hegemony over others.

The system of budgeting to be followed in an Islamic state is that a fair estimate of revenues from all the resources of the state including Zakat, Ushr and Sadaqat is carefully prepared and then allocated to various categories of expenditures. It is a system of budgeting based on the maxim: “cut your coat according to your cloth.” Expenditure is determined in accordance with the quantum of revenues available on account of taxes and other sources of income of the Islamic State. Contrarily, we are following a system in which an estimate of expenditure under various heads is prepared and then ways are found to raise the required finances by manipulating various taxes and sources of income of the state in order to balance revenue with the expenditure. Huge expenditures under various heads are undertaken despite scarcity of resources, which result in substantial deficits. These deficits are financed through internal and external debts, printing of currency notes, etc. which lead ultimately to inflation, recession, and economic depression.

First Caliph of Islam whenever appointed someone on a government position, he would get an estimate of his wealth and keep it with himself. If the wealth of that person increased during his tenure, he would be held accountable. Whenever he appointed anyone as a governor, he would advise him to never to ride a Turkish horse, wear fine cloth, consume fine flour, have a gatekeeper or close his doors to the distressed. He used to say that pardoning a tyrant is injustice to the oppressed. His sentence “mothers give birth to free children, since when have you enslaved them” is still considered the charter of human rights. He said that he often wondered “how did Umar (rh) change?”. It is clear guideline to be followed by our rulers for observance of accountability.

It is only a few ulema, well-versed in traditional Islamic learning and in modern and postmodern social, political and economic movements, who can understand universal Quranic insights and project Islam in the right perspective. Most of the existing ulema cadre has unfortunately become reactive and defensive. This has resulted in a loss of original thinking and reflection which the Quran encourages. It is tafakkur (reflection) on the universe which will help Muslims progress, and not defending medieval traditions. The sooner we realise this the better for us.

So in my opinion only Islam can bring us in power (not only education). If we will follow Islam then we have to get education as well because education is a part of Islamic teaching.
