For your business to maximise its profits you should be looking to save money everywhere you can.
Marketing
You will need to continue to market your business, even once you are up and running. If you don’t continue to market your business, even though you may be busy now, six months down the track you could be struggling to find work. Advertising is an integral part of your business but it can be quite expensive. There are many different ways to advertise your business, some more expensive than others, like television and radio at the higher end of the scale, or setting up a business page on a social networking site which can be free. Do a bit of research into different methods of advertising and don’t just go straight for the obvious options, which can be a bit more pricey.
Split Advertising Costs
To save a bit of money you can split the cost of your advertising by sharing advertising space with another business. You may choose to have flyers or brochures printed up and to halve the costs find a business that is complimentary to yours and offer to share half the brochure space and the costs. This will be beneficial to both parties. Not only will it save you money but you can reach a much wider audience, as you can send out brochures to the other businesses clients. Suddenly you have a whole target market that you didn’t have access to.
Online store
One way to cut costs, if you are planning to get into retail, is open an online store. Having a shop front can be costly, what with rent and other overheads, and for new businesses wanting to start up in the retail industry it can be out of reach financially. Opening an online store is a good way to overcome this, and then perhaps down the track once you have begun to make a steady profit you can look to opening a shop. With an online store you will have the cost of your website, plus any ongoing running costs, but you don’t need to pay rent as you can run your business from home if you wish, plus you don’t need to hold a lot of stock.
Cash Flow
Your business can save money by keeping on top of its cash flow. If you find that your inflow of cash is poor then you will be unable to save any money and your business will struggle. Give your business a chance to save money by making sure you invoice your clients straight away and don’t let clients go too long with overdue payments. If clients are overdue with repayments contact them straight away, and if you can’t get the money from them you may need to look to hiring debt recovery services.
