She died over five years ago, but her words are a haunting warning that we continue to ignore: more women are leaving the Muslim community because of the way they continue to be treated.

These were the words of the late Shareefa Alkhateeb, one of the pioneers of the Muslim community in the United States, when I last met her at a conference just months before her death in 2004.

Sr. Shareefa was one of the earliest and most vocal voices in the American Muslim community to push for the inclusion of and respect for women. She was often the first to notice the lack of sisters speaking at an event and she would firmly, but always politely, make sure something was done about it. The Full Body Security Scanners (also called Nude-body scanners) are being installed at various airports in United States and Europe. Several human rights and religious groups have expressed their concerns and disapproval of such scanners on the grounds of violation of privacy and human dignity.

Full-body scanners may damage human DNA

The Fiqh Council of North America (FCNA) emphasizes that a general and public use of such scanners is against the teachings of Islam, natural law and all religions and cultures that stand for decency and modesty.

It is a violation of clear Islamic teachings that men or women be seen naked by other men and women. Islam highly emphasizes `haya’ (modesty) and considers it part of faith.

The Qur’an has commanded the believers, both men and women, to cover their private parts. Human beings are urged to be modest in their dress.

See Holy Quran, 7:26-27; 24:30-31; 33:59. Exception to this rule can be made in case of extreme necessity, such as medical treatment, to investigate a crime or in a situation of imminent danger. Continue reading »

This Application proves to be the most downloaded paid application on iTunes. When I read this news I was quite excited to know about this application. But when I came to know the reality I went mad WTF is going on here, do you know this application ‘Pakistani Girls’ contains pictures of those innocents who unknowingly left their snaps on public profiles. These all are the natural pictures of Pakistani girls which are publicly available on different social networking sites like facebook, myspace, hi5 and image hosting websites like flicker etc.

Now the question is who developed this app? The answer is iHustle Apps, a US based company that specialized in apple pictorial software, once downloaded your apple devices will synchronize thousands of pictures available on iHustle servers. We couldn’t find their location – as company is registered against fake address. They have a number given on their website, which is apparently not a landline, maybe its skype in number – its 001-347-948-7853. Continue reading »
