Pakistan on Friday successfully test fired new missiles and torpedoes from ships, submarines and aircraft in the Arabian Sea, the navy announced.
“Pakistan navy fleet today tested its fire power in the north Arabian Sea to assess lethality, precision and efficacy of its weapon system,” it said.
The navy did not disclose range or technical details but said “this included successful firing of a variety of missiles and torpedoes from the ships.”
The tests included anti-surface missiles from an F-22P frigate, acquired recently from China, air-to-surface missiles from P-3C aircraft and sub surface-to-surface missiles from Agosta 90B submarines that originate from France. Continue reading »

After Punjab Assembly, NWFP’s provincial assembly has also passed a resolution to put immediate ban on late night calling packages. In fact they went even further, and demanded ban on SMS packages too. Some may term the SMS part little harsh, but night packages are not seen well by many eyes.
By the way, Punjab Assembly passed a similar resolution; however, mobile companies are still offering night packages with full glory.
Let’s see how other provinces, and ultimately the cellular companies respond to this.

The 19th & 20th APNS Awards function was held at Islamabad on Tuesday. Mr Asif Ali Zardari, President of Pakistan gave away the awards to the recipients chosen by the jury.
The President said media should reflect positive societal changes and must contribute to national development. The awards were given to the excellent journalistic and advertising efforts in 2005-06and 2007-08 in various categories.

After the crushing defeat by Australia, meted out to the National cricket team, the PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) has imposed bans, fines on various cricket players, held responsible for their poor performance.
Taking an unprecedented decision, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has banned Younis Khan and Mohammad Yousuf for life and Rana Naveed and Shoaib Malik each for a year.
Shahid Afridi, Kamran Akmal and Omar Akmal have been issued final warnings to improve their disciplinary behavior; while both Shahid Afridi and Kamran Akmal has been fined Rs. three million and Omar Akmal has been fined Rs. two million. These three have also been placed on a six-month probational period.
Sources have also said that a 15-member National squad for the forthcoming 20/20 cricket world cup has also been finalized by the National Selection Committee. Continue reading »
