Mobile Business Solution is growing idea these days after the launch of Telenor’s easypaisa. I think its better to say that Mobile Commerce is probably the hottest trend in Pakistan’s telecom market. Mobilink already had sensed the potential in mobile banking/branch less banking, pretty early, however company took its time in executing the idea.

In Nov, 2008 Mobilink had signed an agreement with Pakistan Post Office to introduce Mobile Money Order Service in Pakistan. The agreement was signed by Ahsan Basir Sheikh, Additional Director General (Financial Services) from Pakistan Post and Bilal Munir Sheikh, VP Marketing from Mobilink

News it that Mobilink is set ready to launch Mobile Commerce, under which it would introduce the concept of Branchless Banking with local and international remittance. Launch is expected early next year.

In a recent report published in Business Recorder and Propakistani, while quoting Mobilink Spokesperson, said that Mobilink is going to enable the consumers to have the experience of paying utility bills, opening and usage of bank accounts through cell phones, and national and international remittances.

It merits mentioning here that Mobilink tried local remittance service in collaboration with Pakistan Post; however, idea didn’t click the desired way.But it didn’t work out for Mobilink. We also know of Western Union’s agreement with Mobilink, which will allow the company to offer international remittance.

Mobilink

However, after the launch of Telenor’s Easy Paisa, one may expect from Mobilink for coming up with something huge. If we look at chances, they are bring as well, particularly after gigantic advertising campaign of Easy Paisa, which worked as awareness for the masses. Now people know mobile money transfer more than what they used to know when Mobilink had launched remittance service.

A new mobile phone charger that will work with any handset has been approved by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), a United Nations body.

Industry body the GSMA (GSM Association) says that 51,000 tonnes of redundant chargers are generated each year. The GSMA said that going to this single standard will not only make life easier for the more than 3 billion mobile phone users in the world today, but it will also help the environment.

Currently most chargers are product or brand specific, so people have to change them whenever they upgrade to a new mobile phone. However, the new energy-efficient chargers will be phone independent and can be kept for much longer. Using the Universal Charging Solution (UCS) will lead to a dramatic reduction in the number of chargers produced, shipped and subsequently discarded as new phone models become available.

On 20 October, the GSMA trade association announced at its 2009 Mobile World Congress that it has brokered a deal with the world’s leading handset makers to come up with a standard for charging cell phones.

All the major handset makers, including, Nokia, LG, Motorola, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson, have agreed to use the Micro-USB technology as the common universal charging interface. By 2012, the GSMA promises, most cell phones will use the same kind of connector to charge their batteries. The charger has a micro-USB port at the connecting end, using similar technology to digital cameras.

Seventeen mobile operators, including Vodafone, Orange, and Telofonic, announced they are committed to implementing the standard for the universal mobile phone charger. The GSMA will urge cell phone manufacturers to develop chargers that consume 50 percent lesser power as compared to today’s chargers. It is not compulsory for manufacturers to adopt the new chargers but the ITU says that some have already signed up to it.

logo_ufonePakistan’s famous Mobile Network Operator  ufone launched Blackberry App Store. It is Pakistan’s first Blackberry Apps Store to provide wide variety of applications to its Blackberry customers. I was waiting for this event because Pakistan is one of those countries who have largest mobile users and we have not even a single mobile app store. Anyways, Ufone took the initiative and i am sure it will positively contribute towards its image as a market innovator brand. I must say that mobilink, telenor, warid and zong should look into it and instead of making adds try to come up with these sort of innovations.

You can download Blackberry applications from Ufone’s website. Not only this the OTA (over the air) download option is also available so you can get your favorite app while being on the move through your Blackberry phone. Currently they are showing 11 compatible devices but as far as my knowledge is concern these apps will be compatible more then these devices, the only thing you have to do is to check it. You can access the store by clicking here.

I also putting a screen shot of ufone blackberry portal (http://www.ufoneblackberry.com/) Continue reading »

Seth Rosenblatt, CNET Download.com wrote on TechMSN that Even though it’s been around almost as long as the modern Web, instant messaging is still a great way to send short communication bursts without tying your ear to a telephone. But with great utility come buckets of options: Do you use Yahoo IM? AOL IM? MSN? Google Talk? ICQ? What do you do if your parents are on one service, but everybody at your office uses a second and your friends are all on a third?

Nobody wants to be logged in to half a dozen different chat programs simultaneously, which is where multiprotocol apps come in, to free up resources and streamline your experience by presenting a single interface for managing your contacts, regardless of their preferred networks.

In this collection we show off several of the best multiprotocol chatware apps around, some of which have portable versions that you can carry on a USB key. Google, AOL, Yahoo, MSN, ICQ and others are one and the same to these helpful apps. To keep things fair, I’m presenting the programs in alphabetical order.

With so many ways to network and socialize online, you may find it difficult to keep track of everything.

Digsby

62f6197042c4d72ccba3357bcca595Digsby promises to help keep chat, e-mail and social-networking conversations in one convenient place, but it’s still in beta and not without its flaws. It supports AIM, MSN, Yahoo, ICQ, Google Talk and Jabber for IM; Gmail, MSN, Yahoo, AOL, IMAP and POP for e-mail; and LinkedIn, MySpace, Facebook and Twitter for social networking.

The contact list appears as a skinny rectangular box, with clear controls to add accounts to get started. From there you’ll find a menu of IM and e-mail programs, and multiple social-networking sites. When selected, each simply asks for your login and password and connects to the system. Your various programs are displayed, with IM buddy icons separate from e-mail and social-networking e-mails. You can reorganize contacts regardless of network. Digsby is known for being sluggish, and although there have been vast improvements in this area, it doesn’t have the best response times.

An unofficial portable version is also available, but many users have had significant problems installing it. Continue reading »
