Being a gadget freak, I am always fascinated towards advanced features and stylish smart mobile phones. HTC is my favorite brand that has always fulfilled its promise of producing durable and users friendly handsets. The new HTC S740 has captured my attention with its sharp and sophisticated features. The 3G network handset comes in stunning black colour casing that weighs 140 grams and has the dimensions of 116.3 x 43.4×16.3 mm. The screen displays 65K colours with 11.6 x 43.5 x 16.3 mm screen resolution. If one reviews the memory of the handset, one would find that it comes with an internal memory of 256 MB along with a Micro SD card to support further memory enhancement. On fully charged condition, its battery delivers 400 hours of standby time and 6 hours and 20 minutes of talk time.

The users can also enjoy speedy Internet accessing with the HTML browser. The video, music, pictures can be downloaded without any hurdle. The users friendly services like messaging, game, phone book etc., increase usefulness of the handsets. The messaging options allow one to exchange SMS, MMS and Emails at very reasonable rate. The phone book can store unlimited contacts and call history allows one to view last dallied, missed or received calls. The HTC S740  is suitable for people who wish to have both style and sophistication. Personally, for me this handset is best as it comes with stupendous features. Customized UI overlays over mobile operating systems are nothing new, especially when it comes to HTC, which has been doing it with Windows Mobiles for years. However, this time it’s different, as Android is a far more exciting – for lack of a better word – mobile platform than any current iteration of Windows Mobile. Android is poised to appear on many different pieces of mobile hardware this year, but we can also expect many of those Androids to have completely different UIs. It’s somewhat like Linux (linux) – yes, there are many different distros and it can all confuse the end user, but once you get acquainted with the basic idea you can find the version that suits your needs perfectly. As Opera continues to chip away at its competition and gain mobile market share, you can bet it’s not resting on any laurels. The software company has just released its 9.7 Beta version for Windows Mobile and promises to render pages faster and with better compression. The new version also includes Opera Widgets manager. Do note that this is still in beta and will have some issues:

  • Opera Turbo in Opera Mobile is still a preview-feature;
  1. Downloads don’t work while Opera Turbo is enabled.
  2. Some settings (such as toggle on/off images) do not apply when Opera Turbo is enabled.
  • On older WM 5.0 Devices with 480×800 resolution, switching between portrait and landscape may cause display errors. This is due to lack of support for this resolution in early versions of Microsoft’s driver.
  • Some input method editors are known not to work well with Opera because they do not comply with Microsoft’s SIP and/or IME standard. When such an editor is detected by Opera, Opera will use a known (default) input method instead. An exception is EzInput v1.5, where the phone keypad and compact QUERTY, ABC mode doesn’t work, but the rest of the modes work fine. We recommend upgrading to EzInput v2.0 to avoid this.
  • Only support for FlashLite 3.x. No Flash plugin included.

Still, it looks like a fine upgrade and a great direction for Opera mobile, especially with the new widgets manager. Check it out and let us know what you think.
