The King of Pop’s funeral will feature a circus-style public memorial service led by elephants. His coffin, a rare £15,000 design called the Promethean, is made of solid bronze but is 14-carat gold-plated with a hand-polished mirror finish and lined with velvet. It was ordered last night from America’s Batesville Casket Company and is identical to the coffin used to bury James Brown in 2006 — which may have inspired Jackson after he saw it when Brown lay in state.

The memorial service for the ‘King of Pop’ Michael Jackson has ended with an emotional goodbye from the star’s only daughter. Paris Katherine Jackson, 11, fought tears as she told an audience of millions her father had been great since the day she was born. “I just want to say, ever since the day I was born, Daddy has been the best father you could ever imagine. I just want to say I love him so much.” Afterwards she burst into tears and was helped off the stage by her aunt Janet Jackson. Her brothers Prince Michael, 12, and Blanket, 7, were also on stage with their uncles and aunts but did not speak.
The Staples Centre in Los Angeles erupted into song for renditions of Jackon’s hit songs We Are The World and Heal The World. The stage, filled with Jackson’s family and performers such as Lionel Richie, Usher, Smokey Robinson, Mariah Carey, sung the iconic songs along with the thousands of fans crammed into the stadium for the memorial service. Jackson’s brother, Marlon Jackson said he would “treasure the good memories of his brother.” “I hurt”.

Now they’re in line with other creditors and business partners awaiting word on the state of Michael Jackson’s murky financial empire. Financial firms including Colony Capital LLC, Fortress Investment Group and Barclays Bank PLC poured tens of millions into the singer over the years. The cash allowed Jackson, a notorious binge spender, to maintain a lavish lifestyle befitting a global pop star.
But the potential peril of owning a portfolio tied to an eccentric entertainer became apparent with the singer’s surprise death at the age 50. It also highlighted Wall Street’s fascination with the entertainment industry — a trend that could cool depending upon how much Jackson’s creditors manage to recoup from their investments.
‘There’s always been a nexus between the worlds of celebrity and finance, and it’s only grown in recent years,’ said Ian Peck, president of Art Capital Group, which specializes in making loans to celebrities and rich clients who put up artwork as collateral.
Jackson’s lenders seemed to ‘get a kick out of having a big celebrity as a client’ despite his checkered finances and 2005 child molestation trial, Peck said. The pop star also benefited from the same credit boom that ensnared ordinary Americans and led to the financial meltdown. Continue reading »

Michael Joseph Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was an American recording artist, entertainer and businessman.
