Creating the Share on Windows

  • Ensure your network connections are on and can allow the connection from the other computer.
  • Go to the Network and Sharing Center window and click on-Change advanced sharing settings.
  • You then will have to adjust the following two settings on your current profile:
    • Turn on the network discovery
    • Turn on the file and printer sharing
  • After those settings have been configured, Click on “Save Changes”.
  • Go to the folder that you want to share and then right click on it. Then, click on the properties. On the sharing tab, click advanced sharing.
  • From here, you need to check the “Share this folder” box and then click on “Permissions”.

If you want set security restrictions, you are required to do the following:

  • Go to the Advanced Sharing windows and Click OK on the Permissions. While On the same properties menu, click on the security tab.
  • So as the Linux user can have access to the shared folder, you need to configure the same permissions in this tab as what was configured in the sharing settings. You can now go and click close.
  • Incase you wanted to add a user, you need to click on Edit.
  • In the next menu, you will be required to Click on Add, then enter the username and click OK.
  • On all the open windows, you will be required to Click OK and your folder can now be shared out and accessible on your Linux computer.
  • From here you are required to mount the shared folder by using the GUI in Linux. However, it is also very easy to do it using a command line. It is very easy to show a terminal example because this can work across so many different distributions.
