KARACHI: Pakistan’s former Test captain Wasim Akram praised Misbah’s side and Shahid Afridi who are performing well to defend their Asia Cup title, but also warned them for the final match against Sri-Lanka who defeated Green shirts in the opening match of this tournament.
Wasim who had played 104 Tests and 356 ODIs for Pakistan said that the Islanders have performed consistently in this Asia Cup 2014, they have already defeated Pakistan, India and Afghanistan in the league matches.
While talking to the media he said, Presently, ‘Pakistan are playing brilliant cricket with Shahid Afridi at his very best. However, I think Pakistan will have to remain watchful against Sri Lanka in the final as Angelo Mathews and Company have played some very fine cricket in the Asia Cup so far.’
The King of Swing, Wasim Akram praised Pakistan’s star all-rounder Shahid Khan Afridi for his match winning batting form. He said, ‘Afridi’s amazing batting changed Pakistan’s fortunes against India and then against Bangladesh as Pakistan chased their record total of 327. I don’t have words to describe Afridi’s remarkable batting.’
Wasim also praised Fawad Alam for his batting performance against Bangladesh, who made a comeback in International cricket after three years. He said, ‘Fawad was making a comeback in the national team after over three years but he did very well to help steer his team to victory, while smashing a couple of sixes at the right time.’
Legendary fast bowler Wasim Akram was very disappointed by the performance of Pakistan’s bowling attack, who allowed the host team Bangladesh to post a huge total of 326 runs. He said, ‘They bowled too much outside the off-stump instead of bowling in the right areas,” Wasim noted. “I hope they will learn from their mistakes.’
